Enjoy a virtual tour of Maria Montessori's Study, narrated as if she were guiding us herself:
Here I am at age thirteen, in 1883. It was quite special to be sitting for a formal portrait when you are so young. And look at those colours and the fine gloves I am wearing. The painting was done by Berrini. To me, the way my eyes were painted really illustrates my curiosity and thirst for knowledge. The painting has always accompanied me—it was brought over from Rome to Barcelona when I lived there. In 2019 my great granddaughter Helen felt the painting should become part of my study and this corner in the room makes a rather lovely family niche: I am flanked by my parents Renilde Stoppani and Alessandro Montessori.
